Huge Mess to Clear

I don't remember how many years ago I gave our then-neighbour saplings
to plant on his side of our common wall.
I watered them faithfully and watched them grow into
the line of tall and then very tall trees.
We have had two changes of neighbours since then.
The lovely young trees have become a nuisance to both our neighbours and us.
When the wind blows the trees deposit fine needles and twigs in the pool.
First one tree and then another died.

Our new neighbour approached us and said he wanted to take the trees out.
We supported him in his desire.
He cut down one and then a second.
A big job.

Somehow or other Doug got involved last week and the next I knew
Doug's workers, Sylvester and Ishmael were climbing up
Glenn's and Doug's tall ladders and getting the job done.

They worked Thursday and Saturday last week.

This is how our neighbour's back and side yard looked
after the trees were felled.

Our neighbour generously offered to cart some of our rubbish
if we would like to add it to the trees.
Glenn heaved some of our stuff over the wall too.

It took two ten ton truck loads to cart away!
Alfie said he just wanted it cleared, so he did.
He is young and industrious.
He gets things done! How's this?!

Their whirly washing line was the only casualty in the felling.
The one falling tree brushed it and knocked it over.
Glenn spent Monday repairing it for them.
The washing line was a tangle beyond redemption so
I got some more line and Glenn and I restrung it.
He went across in the afternoon and set it up again.
Their maid was so happy to see it up again, she promptly pegged washing to it.
Earlier washing was hung on all their fences she could find.

Our swimming pool will have less floating debris now.  Yah!
Our dining room area has a lot more light!
And the outlook from the patio looks bare...
I will see how I manage that emptiness that saddens me.

What a big job finally finished!
